🌬️ Low Dust & Respiratory Friendly
High-quality beechwood chips are naturally low in dust, making them suitable for hamsters with sensitive respiratory systems and a good choice for owners who want a cleaner substrate option.
🌿 Adds Enrichment & Texture Variety
The harder, crunchy texture creates a more complex and enriching environment. Hamsters enjoy walking over different surfaces, and the variety can help reduce boredom.
🪵 Natural & Safe Material
Beechwood chips are made from untreated, kiln-dried hardwood, making them safe for small animals when used correctly. They don’t splinter easily and provide a stable, natural substrate layer.
💪 Great for Mixing With Other Substrates
When combined with paper bedding, hemp, coco chips, or soil-like substrates, beechwood chips help create a more natural and supportive landscape, improving both enrichment and burrow quality.
🧠 Encourages Natural Behaviour
Hamsters naturally dig, explore, and occasionally rearrange their environment. Beechwood chips provide behavioural stimulation, encouraging digging, pushing, and foraging.
⚠️ Not Suitable as Bedding on its Own
Because beechwood chips are firm rather than soft, they should be used as substrate, not as a fluffy bedding layer. Pairing them with deep, soft bedding helps maintain comfort and nest-building opportunities.

Made from natural wood with no added oils or chemicals.
We recommend freezing beechwood chips before use to ensure they are completely safe for your small animal. Natural wood products can occasionally contain microscopic pests, eggs, or larvae that are not always visible to the eye.
Tips: You can just put the bag of chips in the freezer with the zip lock bag that we provide
To make the substrate fully safe, follow this freezing method:
1. Freeze for 48 hours
2. Remove and allow to defrost for 24 hours
3. Freeze again for a further 48 hoursThis two-stage freezing cycle helps eliminate any potential pests by disrupting their life cycle, ensuring the wood is clean, hygienic, and ready for use in your hamster’s enclosure.
